Description

The Ex Francisco Gabarro. This cello was purchased from Francisco Gabarro around 1985, shortly before he retired. Gabarro was a Spaniard and star pupil of Pablo Casals. Having escaped the Civil war in Spain, he came to England via India and spent many years as principal cellist of the London Symphony Orchestra, combining solo work, chamber music and eventually becoming London's number one session 'cellist. He held worldwide respect and even though he was offered more prestigious instruments, he preferred this cello. The instrument has a dark, rich and wide nutty sound which made it a fantastic recording 'cello, as well as projecting well in a concert hall.
