The fluted shaft, the ornate frog of foliate form

Stamped: Betts

by Arthur Betts

Weight: 78g

Excellent throughout *

This bow is illustrated in The British Violin (BVMA, 2000, pp. 354 - 354), in which the bow is described as follows: "Although the maker cannot be positively identified, the quality of the work suggests the workshop of Thomas Tubbs. The head is of full height, but the stick is fluted in the fashion of earlier eighteenth-century bows. The frog, however, is to a new pattern incorporating ferrule and slide. The bow demonstrates one of the wide variety of designs made in England during this period"
