Brompton’s presents the Heath Quartet in Faraday’s famous theatre at The Royal Institution

Heath Quartet: “Focused, skilled, and ready for anything” [The Times]

Brompton’s, Europe’s leading auctioneers for musical instruments, presents the Heath Quartet in Faraday’s famous theatre at The Royal Institution in a recital showcasing the best of young British talent.

The ‘Brompton’s Recital’ brings live classical music to the extraordinary setting of the Faraday theatre at The Royal Institution. The Ri, affectionately known as Britain’s home of science, is open to the public year-round and is most famous for the Christmas Lectures, broadcast on the BBC annually.

The recital, featuring a programme of Haydn and Tchaikovsky, takes place one week before Brompton’s major autumn sale and will last one hour from 6.30pm. Brompton’s aims to provide music-lovers with a high-quality, inexpensive, post-work experience in its magnificent Mayfair home. In partnering with the Young Classical Artist Trust (YCAT) to present the Heath Quartet, Brompton’s is providing a performance opportunity for the outstanding young British string players as they emerge on the international concert platform.

Some of the most illustrious names in British science have passed through the doors of The Royal Institution, however the presence has also been felt of musical luminaries such as Hubert Parry and Yehudi Menuhin, who gave ‘Friday Evening Discourses’ to highlight the link between science and music. Still, this will be one of the rare occasions live classical music will be heard in the intimate acoustic of the RI’s amphitheatre, the Faraday theatre.

Proceeds from the recital series will go to the National Children’s Orchestra, to which Brompton’s recently donated a fine half-sized cello.

Peter Horner, Director of Brompton’s Auctioneers says: “Buying and selling millions of pounds worth of instruments each year is all very well, but it is music and performance which brings them to life. A high percentage of our clients are musicians, and we actively invite potential buyers to try out instruments in the wonderful acoustic of the Ri’s Faraday theatre. However I’ve always wanted to give the public the chance to experience classical music in this exquisite building, so we’re encouraging people to pop in after work for an hour of gorgeous music-making. I also feel strongly that by providing a platform for the best emerging British talent Brompton’s can play a part in supporting future generations.
