Full Concert Videos: Glories of Venice – A Celebration of Rare Cellos at the Royal Academy of Music

Brompton’s was the proud official sponsor of Glories of Venice: A Celebration of Rare Cellos at the Royal Academy of Music on 25th November 2018. We’re delighted to announce the videos of the full concert are now available to watch below.

“The grand city of Venice, one of the centres of musical activity in the early and mid-eighteenth century, fabled for its pageantry, ceremonies, and street life, was also home to the great cello makers Matteo Goffriller and Domenico Montagnana, amongst others. Their instruments, rivalling those of the legendary Stradivarius, have been the choice of past and present stars of the cello world, including Pablo Casals, Pierre Fournier, Leonard Rose, Lynn Harrell, Mischa Maisky and many more.”

This event offered the chance to see and hear in close proximity instruments which have lent their lustre to the art of musical performance for nearly 300 years, in the hands of stellar cellists along with hearing a rare Sanctus Serafin cello from the private collection of Charles Beare played by Sheku Kanneh-Mason. It was also a celebration of the life and work of Ralph Kirshbaum, who received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the London Cello Society.
