Chiocchi, Gaetano

B.1814, Monselice, d. 1881, Padua

Violinist taught the rudiments of violin making by Giuseppe Ceruti relatively late in life. Instruments dating from after 1858 show a strong Ceruti influence, with a broad, open outline and long soundholes. Sometimes these have purfling made up of five alternate black and white veneers, rather than the usual three.
