Active 1740-1775, Madrid

Highly distinguished Spanish maker known as Il Grenadino after his birthplace in Granada. His work is idiosyncratic but strongly influenced by Stradivari, whose instruments were in use in the Spanish court. A broad model and powerful, flat arching provide a powerful tone. Generally used a rich golden-coloured varnish. Succeeded with less distinction by his son, Jose (1751-1827).
