Probably trained in Florence - some Carcassi instruments show signs of his workmanship- he worked in Livorno in a very neatly crafted and stylised manner. Distinctive features include a long, swan-necked pegbox with hollowed sides, and the use of whalebone for the purfling. Almost invariably branded with initials ??~AG??T on various places on the exterior, these brands have nevertheless been imitated on inferior instruments. Onorato, his son (active ca 1770-1800), followed him as a violin maker, but with less distinction.
