Testore, Carlo Giuseppe

Active 1690-1720, Milan

A pupil of Giovanni Grancino, and his best work is hard to distinguish from that of his master. The shape of the volute can in some ways be the only way to distinguish the two, Grancino having a full, rounded scroll, while Testore tended to carve it with a pronounced diagonal ovality. His workmanship and varnish can be of the highest quality, although the varnish is restricted to the paler, golden yellow palette associated with Milan.
