Lot Title

A Very Fine Violin by Charles Boullangier, London circa 1850, After Del Gesu

Description

The scroll possibly by another hand. A similar example was sold though these rooms as lot 131 on 21st June 2011. At this point Boullangier was working for Withers alongside John Lott. The lustrous, transparent varnish on this violin is very reminiscent of the type found on Lott's own work, and perhaps indicates a collaboration between the two.
