Reference Library Makers

One of the very best makers of the nineteenth century, he was the pupil of Giovanni Frencesco Pressenda in Turin. The two worked closely, and virtually as equals up until about 1840. From 1845 to 1850 he did his best work, producing excellent instruments based on the 'Messie' Stradivari, and the 'Alard' Guarneri del Gesu of 1742. His craftsmanship was superb, and the tonal results appropriately fine. Between 1850 and 1860 he moved to Genoa, where his work inevitably declined a little in quality as he reached the end of his life.
