Rogeri, Giovanni Battista

Giovanni Battista Rogeri was born in Bologna, but was apprenticed to Nicolo Amati in Cremona from 1661-1662. He then moved to Brescia, and was married there in 1664. His instruments are very finely made on strongly Amatese principles, although with personalised touches in the extended corners, narrow, upright soundholes, and flatly carved scrolls. Made many compactly modelled cellos, which now make fine solo instruments. Made use of excellent wood and varnish.
