Zanetto, Peregrino

B. ca 1525, d. ca 1590, Brescia

An important early Brescian maker whose rare surviving work is stylistically quite distinct from Gaspar and his school. Trained by his father, Zanetto di Montichiaro (ca 1490-1560), a skilful viol maker. Surviving violas have elegant scrolls with cello-like shoulders (unlike any other Brescian violas) flat arching and long corners.
