Lot Title

A Fine Italian Violin by Giuseppe Rocca, Turin circa 1846, after Del Gesu

Description

Property of a Lady. This violin is liberally covered in original varnish and unusually retains the original neck and fingerboard. It must be assumed that at some point the original 1832 Pressenda label has been inserted at a later date. This violin is strikingly similar to the example dated 1846, illustrated on page 442 of Sotheby's Four Centuries of Violin Making.
